My Story
I was raised in Ann Arbor, where the University of Michigan was everything. As a child, I remember parking cars in our front lawn for football games. You could hear the band practice from miles away. My first apartment was in the shadow of their monstrous stadium, a great setting for a science fiction story all by itself. Maybe I’ll get to that some day.
After a tour in the Navy, I moved to Texas, where I worked in the chemical and refining industries that surround the city of Houston, and taught in the local community college. I still travel frequently to Michigan, where my family owns a small farm near the summer home of a young Ernest Hemingway. The lovely countryside nearby must have inspired him, as it does me.
My wife Kitty and I are retired teachers, living near the Texas gulf coast. We have three children and four grandchildren, all of them perfect in their own way.
Can You Find the Connection?
My Refugee World series has a connection with Hawaiʻi—the island, not the state. Can you figure out what it is?
Hint: Take a look at a map of Hawaiʻi.
Think you’ve found it?
